Preservation and Transportation

1. Factory Delivery

Most of JOZZON membrane elements manufactured by Jozzon Company are dry-type elements, with a small portion being wet elements containing a protective solution that have undergone random sampling and testing. These wet elements are stored in a standard protective solution containing 1 wt% food-grade sodium bisulfite. After random sampling and testing by the company’s quality control department, the wet elements are immersed in the protective solution for 1 hour and then sealed in double-layered plastic bags, with the inner layer filled with nitrogen gas. Dry-type elements must be kept in perfect condition before opening and use.

2. Post-shipment protection

Opened components must be protected in the following ways before storage or transportation:

(1) Prepare a standard protective solution containing 1 wt% food-grade sodium bisulfite using reverse osmosis permeate.

(2) Immerse the membrane element in the standard protective solution for 1 hour. The element should be placed vertically. Then drain the element and place it in a plastic bag that can isolate it from oxygen.

(3) Label the component number and protective liquid composition on the outside of the component plastic bag.

3. Storage

Please follow these guidelines for storing membrane elements:

(1) Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight;

(2) Temperature range 0℃~35℃. Components stored in 1wt% sodium bisulfite standard protective solution will freeze at -4℃, so this should be avoided.

(3) For components stored in protective solution, check the microbial growth status every 3 months. If the protective solution becomes turbid, remove the components from the packaging bag, soak them in the protective solution again, and repackage them.

(4) When the components are ready to be installed in the pressure vessel, they should be cleaned with an alkaline cleaning solution before use.

(5) The ph of the protective solution should not be lower than 3. The desalination rate of the membrane element will be affected when stored at low ph. Therefore, the ph value of the preservation solution should be sampled and tested at least once every 3 months. When the ph is lower than the standard, the preservation solution needs to be replaced.

4. Transportation

When transporting membrane elements, the following must be ensured:

(1) The packaging plastic bag will not leak;

(2) The components have been properly labeled, including the serial number, type, and protective fluid;

(3) The temperature during transportation must not be too low;

(4) Throwing, dropping, or similar actions are not allowed;

(5) Do not use sharp objects such as carving knives or awls.

It is recommended to use the polystyrene foam padding from the original packaging to prevent mechanical damage to the membrane element.

5. Disposal of Waste Components

All components of the membrane element undergo rigorous testing and are free of any free hazardous substances exceeding national standards. Therefore, used membrane elements can be disposed of as general municipal waste. If the membrane element contains hazardous solutions (after wastewater use), it must be thoroughly cleaned first.
